God is writing a new story on the pages of my life. Not a tale I would have chosen…one that requires not only an umbrella, but a sword. And some sturdy hiking boots.
But see the pen over there, on the right? It’s His pen. His story.
And, as Elizabeth Goudge says of her character, Robert Haslewood, “…personal sorrow had plowed deep furrows in him, and below the surface failure and stress, he was oddly aware at this moment of a deep-down freshness, as though dreams that had failed had sunk down and sprung up in the soul, as awareness of God’s mercy.” ¹
Yes. My brokenness draws forth His mercy. My lack demands His provision. My pain invites His healing.
“My deep need calls out to the deep kindness of your love. Your waterfall of weeping sent waves of sorrow over my soul, carrying me away, cascading over me like a thundering cataract. Yet all day long God’s promises of love pour over me. Through the night I sing his songs, for my prayer to God has become my life.” Psalm 42:7-9 TPT
Today, may you, too, experience a new “deep-down-freshness” of God’s mercy.
