Heaven: My Five Favorite Quotes

I don’t know about you, but Heaven is sounding better every day! Today, I thought I’d share some of my favorite quotes about our real home.

  1. “Shall we stop at the poor line, the grave, which all our Christianity is always trying to wipe out and make nothing of, and which we always insist on widening into a great gulf? Shall we not stretch our thought beyond and feel the lifeblood of this holy church, this holy body of Christ, pulsing out into the saints who are living there and coming back throbbing with tidings of their glorious and sympathetic life?” –Right Reverend Phillip Brooks

  2. “They love the sea too well who complain of a fair wind and a desirable tide, and a speedy going ashore, especially a coming ashore in that land where all the inhabitants have everlasting joy upon their heads.” –Samuel Rutherford

3. “We ourselves…groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.” Romans 8:23

“This groaning is universal among the saints…It is not the groan of murmuring or complaint: it is more the note of desire than of distress. Having received a pledge, we desire the whole of our portion; we are yearning for our entire person in its trinity of spirit, soul and body, to be set free from the last vestige of the fall. We long to put off corruption, weakness and dishonor, and to wrap ourselves in incorruption, in immortality, in glory, in the spiritual body which the Lord Jesus will give to His people…May God help us to groan for the coming of the Lord, and the resurrection which He will bring to us.” Charles Haddon Spurgeon

4. From Todd Burpo, who wrote Heaven is for Real about his son Colton’s experience:

“No matter what new tidbits he revealed, though, Colton had one consistent theme: he talked constantly about how much Jesus loves the children. I mean that: constantly. He would wake up in the morning and tell me: ‘Hey Dad, Jesus told me to tell you, He really loves the children.’ Before bed, as I helped him brush his teeth, ‘Hey, Daddy don’t forget,’ he’d say, garbling the words through a mouthful of toothpaste foam. ‘Jesus said he really, really loves the children!'”

5. And lastly, one of my favorite hymns:

What a Day That Will Be

There is coming a day,
When no heart aches shall come,
No more clouds in the sky,
No more tears to dim the eye,
All is peace forever more,
On that happy golden shore,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

There’ll be no sorrow there,
No more burdens to bear,
No more sickness, no pain,
No more parting over there;
And forever I will be,
With the One who died for me,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
